An introduction by C A Maggi
If you have read the first
edition of Travelling
at the Speed of Life and have found room for
improvement,
then that is probably quite inevitable. I am not really very good at editing!
Travelling at the Speed of Life was
produced without the aid of a professional editor or other assistant. This ensured the
independence of its very brief content, especially as independent thought is a very
important aspect of
considerate awareness.
Even before Travelling at the Speed of Life was printed, there were many things within its
pages that
could have been said slightly differently. Yet the book is not only a
limited first edition. It is also a reflection of one person's
self-expression on the philosophical journey.
While examining the printer's
proofs, I noticed a few minor editorial oversights. These could
have been corrected with additional time and financial
expense. However, both as an author and as a publisher, I had
already realised that the book was likely to need regular revising for
future, expanded
editions.
The decision to keep the copy as it was has ensured the historical uniqueness of the first edition. It is important to see it as an example of the historical voice of an author at the beginning of a writing career.
For future C A Maggi books, especially those
containing the work of
other authors, the assistance of several editors will be
required. Do you have a thorough understanding of philosophy and
the social sciences, a good grasp of world history, professional
qualifications as an editor, and
several years of experience in book publishing and publicity? Do you
value the author's own voice and can polish it rather than disguise it
with your own use of language?
Do you also have interpersonal discretion, a flair for linguistic
clarity, and familiarity with cross-cultural
sensitivities? If so, and you are interested in assisting a
small,
independent publisher whose output aims to support the
development of
considerate awareness and considerate democracy, while also being free
of institutional subsidies, then please apply for an editorial contract
today, wherever you may be in the world.
